Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on the McDonald Investment Co. of Birmingham, Ala., which is buying 656,000 acres of Maine's northern forest land from Bowater Inc. for $155 million, will use Wagner Forest Management of Lyme, N.H. to oversee its new purchases. Wagner, which manages 1.6 million acres in Northern New England and Canada already, has a good reputation among many conservationists. The sale, expected to be completed in 1999, leaves Bowater with about 300,000 of its original 2.1 million acres. With comments by Wall Street analyst Mark Wilde, Pete Didisheim of the Natural Resources Council of Maine, Jonathan Carter of the Forest Ecology Network, Rob Bryan and Sandy Neily of the Maine Audubon Society and Hank Swan who will oversee McDonald's forest operations in Maine.
