Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on a 4-2 decision by the Land Use Regulation Commission to permit the use of electric generators at a remote cabin development in the Attean Lake area. The developer, Lowell & Co. Timber Associates, and its agent, LandVest in Jackman, say time has shown the simple life concept is unmarketable . Lowell & Co. sold most of the 17,000 acres it held to Up North, a logging company, in 1997. But it kept enough land for about 65 shorefront cabins on several area ponds. Several area leaseholders, including Chewonki President Don Hudson, have filed objections to the decision.
