Abstract
"News & Issues" piece on motorized access to public lands. The Bureau of Parks and Lands seems to be moving toward expanding motorized access in special protection and backcountry areas, under certain circumstances. Bureau Director Tom Morrison believes if exceptions aren't allowed, it might preclude having large areas zoned for ecological reserves and backcountry protection. With special focus on All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) and the Little Squaw public reserve near Greenville, and comments by George Smith of the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine and Jym St. Pierre of Restore: The North Woods.
