Abstract
"News & Issues" piece on the $12 million, campus-style Kennebec Regional Business Park proposed for Oakland, which would cater to high-tech and white-collar businesses. The super park would be sited on 200 acres just off Interstate 95 and proponents say it could provide 2,500 jobs over the next 20 years. But unless municipalities with valuations totaling $3 billion sign on to the project by June 30, the proposal will die, because legislation that created the project makes a $1 million state startup contribution contingent on reaching the $3 billion threshold. The tally now stands at $2.8 billion, with 21 municipalities on board and six still to vote on the matter.
