Abstract

Editorial questioning the amounts awarded in two recent Maine court cases and noting that the legal system is beginning to bear a resemblance to the lottery. With references to a $640,000 judgement awarded by Bangor's U.S. District Court in a sexual discrimination case against U-Haul International, and $1.5 million awarded by Portland's Cumberland County Superior Court to four students who rented an apartment from Joseph Soley.
