Abstract
"Educational Endeavors" piece on Liberty School, a "democratic learning community" for grades 9-12 in Blue Hill that stresses self-reliance rather than rules. Arnold Greenberg, the Left Bank Cafe impresario, started the school in 1997 with 38 students. Last year 55 attended, and Greenberg expects at least 65 this fall. Students who live in towns that let families choose secondary schools have their tuition covered by the town; the rest pay a state average tuition of $5,621. Greenberg says all efforts are geared toward answering one question: "How do we prepare our young people for the 21st century?"
