Abstract

"News & Issues" piece about leaseholders on McDonald Investment's new lands, who are venting their frustrations about gate fees, curtailed services and shorter lease periods. Stuart Kallgren, president of the Maine Leaseholders' Association, charged that McDonald, of Birmingham, Ala., is "trying to commercialize recreation" to increase profits. If leaseholders aren't treated fairly, he said, they might try to have the Tree Growth Tax bill repealed. The bill was enacted in 1972 to provide tax relief for large landowners.
