Abstract

Mountain lions had a bounty on them starting in colonial times and lasting through the 1800s, and one was killed as recently as 1891 in the town of Andover. Most biologists consider the eastern mountain lion to be extinct except for a small population in Florida, but several dozen sightings of the beast are reported each year in Maine. Details.
