Abstract
"News & Issues" piece on a crab waste composting operation on Deer Isle that has been shut down by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Mike Wood of Deer Isle and Carl Woodward of Stonington have been licensed to run the operation since 1991 on a what the DEP decided was a good site. But several years ago, Wood and Woodward expanded their operation to a second site that was not licensed. The fishing industry in the area produces a lot of waste and the Department of Agriculture's Maine Compost Team would like to see area towns take over the composting operation. With names and telephone numbers of Maine Compost Team members.
