Abstract

U.S. Windpower's proposal to erect a 640-windmill, 21-megawatt wind farm along a western Maine mountain system has raised questions about existing zoning for the area. An official with the Land Use Regulation Commission, which has jurisdiction over the proposed site, says a special subzone for mountain ridges might have to be created to deal with the $200 million project and subsequent wind farms.
