Abstract

"Periodic Mood Swings" piece on American democracy as it has been playing itself out in Portland's Old Port where two groups of teen-agers gather on Friday nights in small parks on opposite sides of Exchange Street and shout at each other. On one side are the leather-jacketed, metal-pierced kids, and on the other are the Jesus people.
