Abstract
"Cover Story" piece on cancer and renewed testimony to the reality that anyone is vulnerable to ill heath and disease, regardless of seeming good fortune. With special focus on four prominent Maine figures diagnosed with cancer, including Buzz Fitzgerald, 60, an attorney and former president of Bath Iron Works (brain cancer); Mary McAleney, 54, Sen. George Mitchell's former chief of staff in Maine (breast cancer); Steve Murray, 58, a former staff attorney with the Maine Attorney General's Office (brain cancer); and Dick Barringer, 62, former director of the Muskie School of Public Service (prostate cancer). With a related article on alternative therapies and the "healing" rather than "curing" of cancer by Anne Dellenbaugh, who was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 1996.
