Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on the health insurers competing for customers abandoned by Tufts Health Plan, the Massachusetts-based HMO insurer that announced in September it would discontinue services to the Maine market in March of 2000. Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Aetna US Healthcare, Cigna/Healthsourch, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maine all hope to benefit from Tufts' withdrawal. With enrollment figures from 1996 through 1999 as well as 1999 losses through the third quarter for each of these companies.
