Abstract

"Maine Perspectives" piece on an apparent complacency and indifference among young people about politics, suggesting that communications like the one sent via e-mail by Cumberland County Republican Chairman Dan Hoffses to 80 like-minded activists, are a big part of the reason why. Hoffses' e-mail message encouraged the activists to deflect support for a state "patients' bill of rights" by planting fear and mistrust in the minds of voters, rather than by presenting a logical argument.
