Abstract

This week the Legislative Council tabled a bill to repeal a law mandating fingerprinting and background checks for all school employees. They voted unamimously to create a new bill, "An Act Concerning Fingerprinting," which would include four options: repeal; state funding of the $49 fee; requiring only new teachers to comply; and expansion to include day care workers. The new bill would keep debate alive on an issue that has been controversial from the start.
