Abstract
"Cover Story" piece on the 160-year-old Augusta Mental Health Institute (AMHI), which Gov. Angus King believes is ready for replacement. AMHI has housed as many as 1,800 patients, but is down to just 80 today. Lynn Duby, Maine's commissioner of mental health, says she has received a 50-page report and recommendation, and a more detailed 156-page "Operational and Architectural Program," for the new facility from SMRT, a Portland architectural firm. With details about the proposed new facility and a related article about it's cost, which is estimated at between $12 million and $25 million.
