Abstract
"News & Issues" piece on state senator Phil Harriman, R-Yarmouth, who believes Maine state government is wasting millions of dollars on computer technology that turns out to be redundant, incompatible or insufficient. Harriman, a member of the Appropriations Committee, wants a showdown over computer purchases contained in Gov. Angus King's supplemental budget request. The state has about $40 million a year in computer-related expenses and Harriman claims there might be as many as 50 different computer systems in state government, and he cites several examples of huge sums wasted on computer-related projects.
