Abstract
"News & Issues" piece on negotiations to protect the Appalachain Trail (AT) on Saddleback Mountain, which have been delayed because the newborn son of Saddleback negotiator Katherine Breen has been ill. Breen asked for a delay until April, but Pam Underhill of the National Park Service's (NPS) AT office wants to meet no later than mid-March or Underhill said the NPS could be forced to use the eminent domain process to resolve the impasse. A 1996 NPS appraisal indicates the aging ski resort is worth no more than $5 million, but Breen wants at least $16.1 million.
