Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on a decision by the Lamoine appeals board upholding an earlier decision to deny a local general store a permit to install gas tanks and pumps above a sand and gravel aquifer. Ed Ciampa, owner of Lamoine General Store, said he planned to utilize double walls for the tanks and an alarm system that would react in the event of a leak, to protect against possible contamination. But a group of citizens calling themselves the Lamoine Community Association hired a lawyer to stop the project. Ciampa plans to file an appeal in Superior Court.
