Abstract

United States Cellular constructed a 480-foot steel tower in the middle of Machiasport village on the weekend of October 9. Although the company had the necessary permits from the town code enforcement officer none of the townspeople were aware the red and white tower with blinking lights was going up in their town. The fact that the code enforcement officer was well within his authority in granting the permits without notifying the town's residents points to the need for towns to continually review their building ordinances.
