Abstract
"News & Issues" piece on a controversial state-approved sludge-spreading project in Parsonsfield. Wheelabrator Bio Gro abandoned the pilot project earlier this week, just two weeks after sludge spreading was to have begun and five days after 150 people packed a public meeting on the subject. The state licensed the pilot project in 1998 so Wheelabrator could spread 600 tons of sludge from the Portland Water District on 55 acres of wooded land. Wheelabrator said community pressure prompted them to abandon the project.
