Abstract

"Capitolism" piece on the Financial Services Modernization Act (FSMA), which repeals the provisions of the 1933 Glass-Steagall Act, a measure designed to prevent the involvement of banks in insurance and securities brokerage that led to so many failures during the Great Depression. Maine's congressional delegation voted unanimously for the FSMA, which, among other things, will allow Anthem, the company that just bought Maine Blue Cross, to share medical records with any banks, insurance companies or brokerage firms it happens to do business with.
