Abstract
"News & Issues" piece on the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine, which is taking credit for a plan that gives a blank check to construction of public boat ramps on waters of the north woods, including the most protected ones. The proposal would allow public launches on all management classes of water bodies except Class 1, the least accessible, undeveloped lakes with outstanding resources, and Class 6, designated pristine remote ponds. The proposal is being opposed by the Natural Resources Council of Maine and a number of Allagash activists, and Jennifer Cost of Maine Audubon Society recommended that the proposal should not be approved without revisions.
