Abstract
"News & Issues" piece on the Kieve Reading Camp for Boys, which was located this year on a 14-acre oceanfront site in Bremen. Program developer Phoebe Nichols said the staff of four adults learned as much from the two-week experience as the campers did, even though the program was modeled on the Nobleboro camp's well-established summer session in math and science for girls. Eight boys of varying ages participated in the pilot session. Program director John Nichols, a Title One reading specialist, said the hardest thing was keeping the older boys challenged while not overwhelming the younger ones. Next year, the Nichols hope to recruit younger boys from farther away for whom coastal attractions are a novelty.
