Abstract
"News & Issues" piece on the North Slide trail on Mt. O-J-I in Baxter State Park, which will immediately change to a bushwhacker route, an unmaintained trail that will be accessible only for those who want to blaze their own way. Park officials made the decision after reevaluating the trail following an accident last month in which a Bowdoin College student sustained serious injuries when he fell almost 200 feet. Chief Ranger Chris Drew said there have been three or four accidents at the same spot on the trail in the past decade, including a fatality in 1991.
