Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on a recent 4-3 vote by the Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) at their Sept. 21 meeting supporting a new vehicle access at John's Bridge on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway and a subsequent decision by LURC to require that boats be handcarried down to the water. The vote was actually to reject a staff-written denial document. Now the staff must prepare an approval document that the commissioners will vote on at their Nov. 1 meeting. The hand-carry regulation is insurance against John's Bridge becoming a de facto trailered access point.
