Abstract
"Cover Story" piece on the so-called compromise gay rights bill, Question 6 on Maine's Nov. 7 referendum ballot, which was written by state senator Joel Abromson, R-Portland, and reflects a compromise with the Maine Catholic Diocese. Under the new language, churches will be exempted from the mandates of the anti-discrimination law if it violates their beliefs and teachings.
