Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on a decision by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), which allowed Steamship Navigation Company, parent company of R. D. Outfitters, to use inflammable material to construct barriers at its controversial rifle range in Warren, according to Randy Dunican, the range's owner. Growing concern over the fire hazard has prompted residents to demand that the 17-to-30-foot high berms made from waste material be covered with organic material. And Eric Tolman, president of the Oyster River Bog Association, is concerned about contaminated runoff from the property. A public hearing is scheduled for Dec. 6.
