Abstract
"News & Issues" piece on Maine's lynx population, which is growing, even though last spring, the federal government placed the lynx on its official threatened list. Five lynx are known to have been accidentally killed in Maine since 1987, and the cause of death of a sixth is uncertain. Still, there are now 21 radio-collared lynx in the wild, and Maine's Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has banned snaring, but not foothold trapping, within a four-mile radius of areas where lynx have been sighted or tracks found.
