Abstract
"Feature Story" piece on Burt's Bees, the nature-friendly bath, beauty and skin care products company owned by Roxanne Quimby, 50, of Winter Harbor (70%) and Burt Shavitz of Parkman (30%). The company began in Maine on a shoestring and by 1993 sales were up to $3.5 million. In 1994, the company moved to North Carolina. Quimby expects sales to climb to $22 million or more this year and the profits are letting her fulfill a new dream, protecting the north woods.
