Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on the $253-million shortfall, or what is called the structural gap, between Maine's revenues and expenditures in the upcoming biennium. Senate President Michael Michaud, D-Millinocket), blames part of the problem on term limits. And last year's majority leader, Chellie Pingree, D-North Haven), said short-term legislators who are seeking a sense of accomplishment, and long-term forecasting, are on a collision course. Mixing the gap with term limits is a recipe for disaster, Pingree said.
