Abstract

"News & Issues" piece on a legislative committee's reversal of approval for a bill that would have switched the right-of-way from bikes to cars and required cyclists and pedestrians to operate 10 feet from the centerline. A barrage of calls and e-mails from concerned bicyclists promoted the reversal. In the state House, a proposal to mandate a child's right to bike and walk to school was defeated 108-35. Currently that decision is left up to local school boards.
