Abstract
"News & Issues" piece on Texas businessman Dick Brown, who paid $9,128,000 to Mead Oxford Corp. for 20,013 acres in East Middlesex Canal Grant Township and an additional sum to Plum Creek Maine Timberlands LLC for a right of way to the land. The easement, estimated at about $500,000, gives Brown a permanent right of way over Plum Creek land to his East Middlesex property. The sale of the right of way is unusual for the north woods but indicative of the changing ownership pattern. Historically, major landowners, which were mostly paper companies, allowed access over each other's roads on a quid pro quo basis.
