Abstract
"Cover Story" piece on Camp Susan Curtis in Stoneham, which is named after former governor Kenneth Curtis' daughter, who died of cystic fibrosis at age 11 in 1970. The camp, run by The Susan Curtis Foundation in Portland, is exclusively for Maine children whose parents are poor. Over 10,000 children have spent part of their summer at the camp since it opened in 1974. It is the only camp in Maine that is tuition-free for every child, and last year 378 children attended one of the two-week sessions.
