Abstract
"News" piece on a 400-foot extension to the landmark pier at Old Orchard Beach. The pier addition will accommodate a 186-foot casino boat, but consultants Appledore Engineering of Portsmouth, N.H., refused to endorse the soundness of the project, raising questions about passenger safety during boarding and predicting storm damage on a relatively frequent basis.
