Abstract

"News" piece on Maine's 2001 blueberry crop. According to Del Emerson, manager of the University of Maine's Blueberry Hill research station in Jonesboro, this year's crop should top last year's record-breaking crop of 110 million pounds by another 10 to 15 million pounds. John Sauve, executive director of the Wild Blueberry Association of North America, said blueberries are in very high demand. In Japan alone, sales have grown from 3 million pounds in 1995 to 25 million in 2000.
