Abstract
"John's Column" on the legal battle between the Penobscot Nation and the Passamaquoddy Tribe on one side, and the Great Northern Paper, Georgia Pacific and Champion International paper companies concerning the two tribes refusal to turn over tribal documents relating to water quality standards the tribes apply to the Penobscot River. The tribes are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a lower court's ruling ordering them to produce the documents.
