Abstract

"News" piece on the Northeast Dairy Compact. Even though dairy farmers in northern New England are paid an extra stipend through the compact, milk is cheaper in Maine stores than in eight of nine cities surveyed by the University of Connecticut's Food Marketing Policy Center. The study compared Northern New England's price of $2.76 for a gallon of milk, over a three-year period ending in July 2000, to others ranging from $2.56 in Dallas-Ft. Worth, to $3.31 in Miami, with the Dallas-Ft. Worth gallon being the only one cheaper than Northern New England's.
