Abstract

"News" piece reporting that the National Park Service has determined that the new Churchill Dam was built to accommodate fully loaded logging trucks and not to manage stream flow, as it was sold to the public. According to Marie Rust, the park service's regional director, the construction of the new dam was illegal and has had a "directly and adverse" impact on the character of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. The state will be issued an after-the-fact permit for the dam, if the state can mitigate its effects. Details.
