Abstract

"News" piece on notices being sent out by Maine's electric companies inviting donations to the Renewable Resource Fund. The money supports experimental work with solar, wind, fuel cell and other technologies that derive power from renewable sources. A total of three fundraising campaigns since March 2000 have resulted in donations of only $5,300 statewide, with $5,000 coming from Bangor Hydro customers. Pam Person of the Coalition for Sensible Energy says the Public Utilities Commission should instead institute a "system benefit charge" on power bills, like the current line item that supports conservation efforts.
