Abstract
"News" piece on Moosehead Lake's water level. Carlton Pinney, president of the Mathews Cove Camp Owners Association is convinced that Kennebec Water Power Co. is illegally manipulating the lake's water level to benefit the whitewater rafting industry. But at a meeting of the Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) held on Aug. 16, Wes Hallowell, agent/river engineer for the water company denied the charge. According to LURC's Bob McKee, water levels did fall below the target elevation of 1,027.5 feet in 1999 and 2000, but the fall was in response to below normal rainfall.
