Abstract

"News" piece on changes in Maine's food sales tax that go into effect Oct. 1. The changes are expected to generate about $9 million in additional revenues through June 30, 2002, and about $16 million per fiscal year thereafter. With some foods taxed at 5 percent, and other food taxed at 7 percent, retailers are advised to verify that their cash registers can accommodate multiple tax rates. With highlights of the new law.
