Abstract
"News" piece on the Chewonki Foundation, a nonprofit educational institution in Damariscotta, which says it has been running three cars on grease from deep-fat fryers for almost a year, and claims the oxygenated fuel burns cleaner, has less carbon monoxide and none of the sulfur dioxide that is responsible for acid rain. They received a $10,000 grant from Maine Technology Institute to figure out how to make it work. This year the foundation has used close to 20,000 gallons of the fuel, which it calls C3, or Chewonki Climate Conscious, and can produce about 100 gallons of it a day.
