Abstract

"News" piece on a conservation agreement that would protect the West Branch of the Penobscot River in the Greenville area. Assistant Attorney General Jeff Pidot has criticized the nearly finalized agreement, charging that it favors timber industry interests over those of the state, which is negotiating to protect more than 600,000 acres of river, lake and forest. Funding for the project is largely dependent on Congressional approval of an $8 million appropriation from the highly competitive federal Forest Legacy fund.
