Abstract

"News" piece on the new E-ZPass system being introduced by the Maine Turnpike Authority (MTA). The new system does not provide a dashboard readout of the user's account balance as does Transpass, which has been in use for the past five years. But MTA spokesman Dan Paradee said the new system is more reliable and compatible with systems in eight other states, and will allow MTA to close a gap that costs MTA $58,000 per year in fare evasion because Transpass is only 95-96 percent accurate.
