Abstract

Last year, two children in Maine died from the deadly bacteria Escherichia coli, and although many cases of poisoning from the bacteria are caused by consuming undercooked beef, contamination can also occur through cow manure. The state epidemiologist has issued a warning to wash all fruit and produce with water, and has called for an end to Maine's ban on irradiatated food as a way to curb food-borne bacterias. Details.
