Abstract

"News" piece on the ongoing debate over school pregnancies and the distribution of condoms and other methods of birth control in Maine's high schools. With special focus on Mt. View High School in Thorndike, which is in School Administrative District (SAD) 3, where school nurse Laura Stewart says 17 girls in the 400-student school became pregnant last year. Following a heated debate, the SAD 3 board voted 8-2 to allow distribution of condoms under certain conditions, and to contract with the Maine Family Planning Association to provide the services.
