Abstract
The Passamaquoddy Indian tribe would like to open a gambling casino in Calais, and Harrah's Casinos, a division of The Promus Companies, is eager to help them. A bill permitting the proposed Calais casino and others like it operated by the Passamaquoddies and the Penobscots is currently making its way through the Legislature, but opponents believe allowing any casinos to operate in the state would be an invitation to organized crime and other bad elements to establish themselves here.
