Abstract
"News" piece on Plum Creek Timber's concept plan for First Roach Pond, which was aired at a Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) hearing on Oct. 25. Plum Creek claims new development is unlikely to put pressure on the trout fishery. But state biologist Paul Johnson told the LURC that if only half the owners of 89 new camps were to fish, there would be a 17 percent increase over the 2000 estimated use of the pond. The project is Plum Creek's first subdivision since it purchased SAPPI Fine Paper's 905,000 acres in 1998.
