Abstract
"News" piece on animal rights activists who are picketing the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus in Portland. The protestors distributed pamphlets listing the allegedly inhumane practices of circus personnel toward their 75 elephants. Chelsea Sharon, a senior at Portland's Waynflete School and a member of Maine Friends of Animals, helped organize the demonstrations. In a separate demonstration, Lisa Franzetta, 27, of California, who works for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, crouched nearly naked in a cage for an hour.
